Representative Professional Activities and Achievements
Rob Kaplan’s career at William & Mary began in 1986. His responsibilities include teaching Legal Writing and the classroom component of externships; directing the externship program; serving as judicial clerkship advisor; and managing summer public service fellowships, the loan repayment assistance program, and pro bono initiatives. Dean Kaplan serves as the advisor to the William & Mary Public Service Fund, the Bone Marrow Drive Committee, and the Volunteer Service Corps. Prior to assuming his current role, Dean Kaplan served as Associate Dean for Career Services and taught in the Legal Skills program. He practiced labor and employment law with a prominent firm before joining William & Mary.
Dean Kaplan has earned the John Marshall Award for character, leadership, and service to William & Mary Law School. He has been recognized twice by the Black Law Students Association for support of the organization and its members.
Dean Kaplan served on NALP’s Board of Directors and on numerous NALP task forces and committees, including chairing the Bylaws, Nominating, and Recruitment Practices committees. He also served on the Executive Committee of the Virginia Bar Association’s Community Service Program Council.
