This course covers the retributive and restorative aspects of post-conflict reconstruction, and strategies for restoring and enhancing justice systems that have failed or become weakened as a result of conflict. Areas of study will include peace accords; the work of tribunals, truth commissions and local mechanisms to deal with the aftermath of violence and criminal acts; policing and security issues; constitutional development; transparency and corruption; elections and political processes; problems associated with internally displaced people and the role of civil society in establishing sustainable justice and development Course satisfies the Major Paper Requirement. |
