Military Law Seminar 1514 Law 503-01

This one-credit seminar addresses the nature of military criminal law primarily dealing with the structure of military law, basic military criminal procedure, and the role of commanders, military lawyers, and military judges. When possible, a comparative perspective will be used. Students will be encouraged to discuss whether the basic underpinnings of military criminal law are correct or ought to be modified. A paper is required in lieu of an exam, and the final grade will be based on class attendance, class participation, and the paper. The course text will consist of excerpts from Fredric I. Lederer, Military Law, Cases and Materials (Draft 2013 edition)which will be supplied free of charge.
